What do you remember about Monthly Member Gifts? Take this quiz to find out!
Hey jammers, Yellow here! If you’re a bit of an older jammer like me, you might remember back when AJHQ gave out Monthly Member Gifts. Today I’ve got a special quiz for you to see how much you know of (or remember!) of those times. Check it out right below that nice picture of Jamma Township.
Penguins have returned! In the form of a code?

Entering the code “Penguins“ (without the quotes) will unlock special items in Animal Jam and AJ Play Wild!
These are some pretty amazing prizes for a free code! Thank you to Diamondmom76 for the Play Wild Images

Today in Jamaa History: Saved from Endangerment
Hey jammers! Yellow here with a rapid fire TiJH post because it's almost 11pm and I have school tomorrow. Let's get right in. First, we have the return of the first animal to be taken out of stores and then brought back. It's monkeys!
Monkeys were temporarily out of stores to show that they were endangered. After jammers from all across Jamaa raised 100 million gems they returned!
This was a very monkey themed update! Along with a brand new party, the first monthly member gift pet was released! A monkey of course. Member gifts will be a big topic here on AJA coming soon...
Just gonna brush Brady to the side here, sorry. But PLANTS! Treetop gardens 6 years ago today and it was the best thing to ever happen for nature den decorators. The shop originally sold all the plants you see there.
Finally, it's announced the first summer carnival is coming to a close, but a new gems to ticket booth was being added. I remember before this machine it was such a pain to get tickets!
Thats all for today Jammers! See you next time.

Today in Jamaa History: Colorful Creative Crocodiles
Hey Jammers! Yellow here, and today I've got another newspaper and update for us to take a look at! This was a rather large update back in 2011, so let's dive right in to... Oh my.
Hello there Brady! The first page of the newspaper features a video, something not common in the news these days. Unfortunately this video seems to be lost to time as I couldn't find a re-upload. But turning the page, we get into the meat and potatoes of this update. This isn't just a salad, no no no. This is the mom's spaghetti of 2011. (I'm hungry, sorry!)
Crocodiles came to Jamaa! Nowadays it's rare to seem them around, but back then, these were... also rare animals it seems, according to the paper. They also started out with female eyes, unlike today, and it's the only animal to ever do so.
But that's not even all! That's right, TWO large updates were on a single page. You could change the color of den items! Jammers seem to take this for granted now, but this was HUGE. Finally, a den didn't have to be a miss-match of colors. After a page about online safety, another big announcement dropped on page three.
Today in Jamaa History, hamsters were added to the game! Wow, the 6th pet. We've come along way haven't we? These pets were members only on their release.
Thats all for today Jammers, cya around!

Today in Jamaa History: A Single Remain
Hey Jammers, Yellow here! Today I have a brief but notable event. Today in Jamaa History...
the oldest archived Jamaa Journal was released! It's... fairly boring. But hey, that was the beta for you. This wasn't a very major event. Heck, we don't even have the rest of the newspaper. However, it is the oldest image we have, and I think that's pretty cool.
Happy jamming everyone.

Today in Jamaa History: Abandoned Outback
Hey Jammers! Yellow here, with another edition of TiJH. Today, we'll be exploring a part of history, that isn't touched by many jammers today. Its...
Kangaroos and Kimbara Outback! These were a big deal when they first released! Let's take this update page by page shall we?
Kangaroos were a pretty big deal when they first released. They were the first new diamond shop animal (Lions, Arctic Wolves, and Snow Leopards already existed from gift cards). However, this wasn't the first appearance Kangaroos had been spotted in Jamaa over a month before this update! If you'd like to know more about that, check out this ancient video from Snowyclaw:
Here's a picture of the card talked about in the video:
Kangaroos weren't the only new thing released this day though, there was also a new land!
It sucked.
I was there for this update and Kimbara Outback was sooooo boring. All that you could do was the Journey Book, and that's it. The Medical Center and Outback imports opened later on. To get to Kimbara Outback, which was a real challenge at the time because the room was always full (We didn't have find open world back in those days), you'd probably use the world map. Except before using the world map your jaw would drop when you saw it had completely changed.
There was a ton of backlash from the community towards the new map. I don't like it personally, except for that Coral Canyons was finally more than a tiny rock with stairs.
Koalas also returned in this update, because they had left to discover Kimbara Outback.
The new item for the day was the phantom shirt! Happy Jamming everyone! TiJH is going to be taking a small break but will return soon.

Today in Jamaa History: Bunnies Find a Home
Hey Jammers! Yellow here, it's time for another edition of Today in Jamaa History! Today, I have something a bit different for you.
It's the release of Animal Jam's first app! This happened wayyy before Play Wild, a whole five years ago (as of today)! Some of you may not even be familiar with this game, because AJHQ doesn't promote it these days. In it's time however, it was pushed a ton!
The AJHQ animators did a wonderful job on this trailer! The Jamaa Journal also talked about a special event happening in that weekend only in-game:
You can find the video in the Jamaa Journal the same youtube channel as the video above.
I actually had this bunny on my long gone ipod touch... Oh well... On a more interesting note, you might notice the July 18th date there. Tunnel Town did not do a quiet launch. July 18th was the big day and AJHQ made sure everyone knew by sending out Jam-a-Grams.
That's all for today Jammers!

Today in Jamaa History: Seaside Urbanization
Hey Jammers! It's Yellow here again. Today I've got a very exciting update to take a look at. It's very hot outside, and I'd like to go to the beach. Luckily, if you were around in 2011 the beach had just been remodeled!
As usual, all Jamaa Journal images come from here
That's right! Today we're looking at the update of Crystal Sands. Before I even talk about the update, we need to go back one day further to July 6th. What did Crystal Sands look like then?
Now that's very different, and a sudden transition as well! The land lost a lot of it's plant life and those handsome tiki heads... Now, what did AJHQ think they needed to highlight about this change?
The water slides of course! And with waterslides, came a new water park den! I quite like this den, although I wish it was bigger. (AJHQ, expanded water park for diamonds please. Make it happen!) Of course, to get the new den you were going to need alot of gems, and AJHQ had just the solution for you.
The daily spin was first spun on this day seven years ago! The Jamaa Journal brags that you can earn 1500 gems in one day, but these days, that doesn't mean all that much. Inflation is fun, isn't it?
Majorclaw must have been pretty happy with this update, they finally got an astronaut helmet! But most jammers were very disappointed to hear about the closure of coral corner. I wish that shop was still here. So many nice items... At least they had a sale! They had better clearance prices than Toys R Us I bet.
Thats all for today jammers! Join me next time as we head deep underground for our next adventure.

Today in Jamaa History: A Spikey History
Hey Jammers! Yellow here. While going through some more newspapers, I found an interesting event! One that would shape the Animal Jam trading scene forever...
As usual, Jamaa Journals come from here.
That's right, today in Jamaa history, spikes were released! These items, as you probably know, are a core part Animal Jam's trading economy, and a highly desired item by many Jammers! However, spikes weren't always the collars and wristbands you know today. They went by very different names a while back...
That's right! Spikes used to have different names depending on if they were long or short. Long spikes were called Spikey, and shorts were called
Spiked... necklaces? Collar weren't always called collars, but I think the new name fits them better. All of these spiked/y items came on a jam-a-gram that looked like this:
That's all for today jammers! Join me next time as we take a look at AJHQ giving a certain land a makeover, something they've never done since. Happy jamming!

Today in Jamaa History: Cuddly and Randomized
Hey Jammers! Yellow here, and today I've got another history lesson for you all. While I was searching through newspapers from June, I found this!
That's right! Pets were released in Jamaa seven years ago today! I'm also glad to see that Magical Prettymoon didn't have to worry about a lack of new stuff. The next few pages takes a deep dive into pets, which will be very useful for you and I!
The next page has a large chunk of text that's really too long for what it is, so I'll summarize it. The first four pets to be released were dogs, cats, frogs, and ducks. (That's more than Play Wild!). What's REALLY interesting is the other half of the page:
It was hard to get a pet that looked exactly how you wanted it! As far as I can tell, the shape, colors, and accessories were determined by these symbols. Fun fact: These accessories include the head items found at the Play As Your Pet Party. (Source)
AJHQ also gave us this image to show jammers all the diversity in pets. Pirate hats must have been really fashionable back then. One issue that would come up with this update was that EVERYONE was trying to get to Claws n' Paws. The next day, AJHQ would add pet finders around Jamaa.
The source of those images can be found here. Finally, we have our new item of the day, except this time there were many items!
This was the freedom update it seems! That's all for today everyone. I hope you enjoyed our adventure into the past! The next post will be about something very... prickly.

Today in Jamaa History: The Adventures Begin
Hello Jammers! Yellow here! For my first scroll, I’ve decided on June 18th 2013. This update was actually on a Tuesday, oddly enough. But, I would say that it was one of the most important updates in Animal Jam history.
Adventures first released five years ago today! Time sure does fly by doesn’t it? This was such a big event that the reveal of Kangaroos was pushed back all the way to page five.
But, back to adventures. The update launched with two adventures, the Training Grounds, and Return of the Phantoms. These adventures didn’t change much except for the place that housed them, and their prizes. First, the base camp was very different when it first opened. However, there’s not many pictures of it online. Here’s the best I could do:
Very different from what we have now! It was also heavily advertised that adventures were in beta. You could see “Beta” plastered all over, including the Jamaa Journal, party list, and reward items. Speaking of reward items, they’re different from the current prizes too.
Each item, when clicked on, gets rid of the phantom infection is has. If you’ve played Return of the Phantoms you’ll know this is a common trend in the adventure.
Now, for our final piece of trivia, the new item of the day was…
The beta bird feeder! Be sure to join me next time as we take a look at another newspaper from long ago, with with a small feature that made a big impact.

Today in Jamaa History: A Stash of Newspapers
Augh! It’s really dusty down here… I’m ju- *cough* *cough*. Oh my goodness. I’m getting out of this place as soon as I find what Snowy left down here.
Oh? This looks like an interesting book. The Tales of Captain Melville. Let me see if I can grab it without anything fall-
CRASH
Huh? It’s a bunch of Jamaa Journals. Really old ones too… Hey, I remember this update! Maybe it’s time that I take a trip down memory lane.

Hello everyone! I’m Yellowdash.exe, but you can just call me Yellow. I’ve been playing Animal Jam since 2012, and you may know me from Animal Jam Spirit, or r/AnimalJam. Today I’m beginning a new series of posts called Today in Jamaa History. On the day a post is uploaded, something important in Animal Jam will have happened years ago. I hope you’re looking forward my journey into the past, and my first proper post will be very soon.
